LIPA Commission Announces Advisory Committee Membership and First Meeting; Commission’s Initial Public Hearings Schedule
Advisory Committee Comprises Fifteen Distinguished Leaders from Suffolk, Nassau, and the Rockaways Representing Diverse Interests and Views; Commission’s Initial Public Hearings to be Held in Suffolk, Nassau, and the Rockaways
The New York State Legislative Commission on the Future of the Long Island Power Authority (the LIPA Commission) today announced its fifteen-member Advisory Committee, comprising distinguished leaders from Suffolk, Nassau, and the Rockaways representing diverse interests and views (see list below, and bios here). At its first meeting, the Advisory Committee will select its chairperson and determine its agenda.
The Commission also announced the schedule for its initial hearings (see below), where the Commission will receive testimony from stakeholders and the public. Public testimony can also be submitted to the Commission through its website, https://nylipa.gov/public-input.
“The LIPA Commission Advisory Committee members are made up of community leaders across Long Island that we believe best reflect the diverse interests of Suffolk, Nassau, and the Rockaways residents. I’m proud of the team assembled to serve as Advisory Committee members, and we look forward to hearing directly from the public on ways to make their utility services more affordable and efficient during the public hearings." - Senator Kevin Thomas (Commission Co-Chair)
“With the creation of the Advisory Committee, the Legislative Commission on the Future of the Long Island Power Authority has assembled a distinguished cross section of Long Islanders to assist the Legislative Commission with its mission to transform LIPA into a transparent and accountable electric utility that can deliver reliable service at a more affordable cost. The talents and experience of the Advisory Committee members will be invaluable as we seek the best path forward for our electric utility. I thank each one of them for their willingness to serve and look forward to hearing their unique perspectives. Equally important will be the public hearings that the Commission will hold in the next few weeks. Community input is critical to creating a new vision for LIPA that better represents the needs of everyday Long Islanders." – Assembly Member Fred Thiele (Commission Co-Chair)
